BISHOP DR. FRANKLYN BECKFORD
Bishop Dr. Franklyn Beckford was born in the District of New Road in the parish of Westmoreland, Jamaica. He attended the New Road All Age School and later moved on to Maud McLeod High School. He got saved at the age of twelve and has been active in church ever since.
After leaving high school, he entered Church Teachers’ College Mandeville, where he pursued a Diploma in Teaching, specializing in Social Studies and Religious Education. After College, he returned to his Alma Mater and taught for five years. During this time, he also returned to his local church and was later appointed as Pastor of the same Church in 1989.
Bishop Beckford has an interesting career working as a Minister of the Gospel and an Educator, serving as Classroom Teacher, Principal, and Education Officer. He has also served on many School Boards and several Community-Based Organizations. In addition to serving his community, he is an Approved Training Consultant with the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo), an Agency of the Ministry of Tourism Jamaica. He is a pioneer Trainer of the Flagship Program “Team Jamaica” for the past twenty-five years, a Mandatory Training Program for several categories of Tourism employees. He has served the church as a Minister in several capacities for the past thirty-three (33) years as Pastor, Evangelist, National Director of the Department of Pastoral Care, Member of Ministerial Review Board, and Chairman of Christian Education.
This anointed servant of God has a Ministry that is in demand globally, as he is a sought-after speaker by many churches and ministries. He continues to receive frequent invitations to preach, teach, make presentations and do Motivational Talks at crusades, conventions, camps and conferences. This has led Bishop Beckford to travel extensively overseas to minister in North America, South America, and the Caribbean. Some of the countries where he has preached include U.S.A., Canada, Guyana, Cayman Islands, The Bahamas, St. Martin, and Anguilla, to name a few.
He has served the Church of God of Prophecy in Jamaica as Assistant National Bishop and Parish Supervisor for the Parishes of Hanover, St. James, and Westmoreland. In addition, Bishop Beckford has served as Pastor for seven local Churches during his thirty-three years of Pastoral Ministry. His longest Pastoral tenure was at the Church of God of Prophecy, Hopewell, Hanover, Jamaica where he served for twenty-one years.
Our Bishop is a Distinguished Educator and Academic; he has a Bachelor of Arts in History and Management from The University of the West Indies Mona, Jamaica; Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Central Connecticut State University in the U. S. A.; and Diploma in School Management from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Canada. His continuous quest for knowledge has led him to Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary where he has completed a Master of Arts Degree in Religion. In addition, he has also earned a Doctor of Ministry Degree in Global Pentecostalism from the same seminary. His community involvement has led to his appointment as a Justice of the Peace since 2012.
Bishop Beckford migrated to the United States of America in December 2021 and was appointed to serve The Bronx Church of God of Prophecy as Senior Pastor in October 2022. The call to serve this community has been an honor as he endeavors to serve with humility. It is his desire to fulfill the Vision and Mission of the Church as we all embrace the Great Commission.
Bishop Beckford is happily married to Minister Andrea Beckford, a Nurse Practitioner for thirty-one years, and they have two adult daughters Jody-Ann and Jewelle, as well as two grandsons, Khalid and Romario Jr. His lifelong mantra has always been, “Serve God through Worship, Serve people through Ministry.”
